Competition Details

Your GOAL is to build a free standing bridge out of only Popsicle sticks and glue that spans a 400 millimetre gap between two tables and supports the heaviest load possible.

This task is done in groups of 2 and during the allotted class time

The winning bridge is the one that can take the most weight, and is within the rules

  1. You work in teams of 2
  2. The bridge is to be built from popsicle sticks, and glue only
  3. The bridge must be free standing, and must span two level surfaces 400mm apart
  4. The support for the bridge shall be from the top of the tables. The edges of the table cannot be used for support, and engineers cannot glue or sticky tape your bridge to the table. It must be able to be picked up, transported and put away in tact
  5. You must build all of the bridge during class time at school
  6. Popsicle sticks must be kept in their primary form
  7. The bridge needs to be self supporting and if it cannot stand by itself it will be ruled out from judging
  8. The judges decision is final

You will receive:

  1. Popsicle sticks
  2. Access to a hot glue gun + PVA glue

A fair use policy applies to all of these materials. You will not receive any more Popsicle sticks if you are seen to be wasting your current supply
